the sound of sound

Deep is broadcast citywide and webcast worldwide on Wellington's Radioactive 88.6FM every Tuesday night from 11pm - 1am.

We are pleased to announce that Podcasts of the last five shows are available once again at:

Deep's mission statement is 'the sound of sound' which offers a pretty wide range of recorded material to draw from. Four djs operate a loosely based four week turnaround which means each week the show sounds quite different from the last.

To get an idea of the artists and labels featured scroll and click through some of the playlists posted below. The only real constant is that you can be sure the sounds will be -

Playlist for 12/07/2011 - John

One advantage of a Southern winter is that we reap the benefits of a Northern summer! This is the explanation I am holding onto as to why there have been a recent slew of releases from long time established ambient artists currently basking (or possibly frying) in the Northern hemisphere's summer.
Consequently, tonight's show was comprised of all new material from artists including Biosphere, Brian Eno, Marsen Jules, Tobias and  John Beltran plus new folk such as Nicolas Jaar and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. I must also make special mention of a double cd called Kanshin. All proceeds from this download go to the Japan relief fund and it is a very high quality release. If you only buy one ambient cd this year then you probably could not do better. Link below.

Nicolas Jaar - 'Etre' from Space Is Only Noise (Circus Company)
John Beltran - 'Collage Revisited' from Ambient Selections 1995-2011 (Delsin)
Tobias - 'Leaning Over Backwards' from Leaning Over Backwards (Ostgut Ton)
