the sound of sound

Deep is broadcast citywide and webcast worldwide on Wellington's Radioactive 88.6FM every Tuesday night from 11pm - 1am.

We are pleased to announce that Podcasts of the last five shows are available once again at:

Deep's mission statement is 'the sound of sound' which offers a pretty wide range of recorded material to draw from. Four djs operate a loosely based four week turnaround which means each week the show sounds quite different from the last.

To get an idea of the artists and labels featured scroll and click through some of the playlists posted below. The only real constant is that you can be sure the sounds will be -

Playlist for 2 August 2011

So this was my first night presenting Deep - an hour from John and then an hour from me. I can't give specifics of John's playlist, but he played a number of things from the Kanshin compilation he's been enthused about, and from 31 Songs for Japan, another compilation raising money for post-disaster Japan. There may also have been something by Richard Skelton in there.

For my own half, I thought since it's my first night I'll play some longer pieces. Nothing particular to link them together, other than it's what you might expect me to play in future.

Ø - 'Heijastuva', from Heijastuva (Sähkö Recordings)
Douglas Lilburn - 'Lines & Distances', from Complete Electro-Acoustic Works (Atoll)
Thomas Köner - 'Daikan' (well, the last quarter-hour of it), from Daikan (Mille Plateaux)
Taylor Deupree - 'Rusted Oak', from Shoals (12k)
Giuseppe Ielasi - track 04, from August (12k)
